If the USGA knows what’s good for them, they'll pair Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau together for the first two rounds at next month’s US Open at Torrey Pines.

On Monday night, a clip that was not meant for the public eye, was released on Twitter and the golf world went bananas. The video already has 6.9 million views (and counting) just 12 hours after it was tweeted out.

The clip includes a Golf Channel interview with Brooks Koepka after the second round of last week’s PGA Championship.

While the exact cause of what DeChambeau did in that moment to set off Koepka is unknown, the 45-second clip is electric. I even stayed up late last night to watch it all unfold on Twitter.

The PGA Tour may scramble to get the clip erased from the internet today, but in reality whoever released this to the public deserves a raise. This is the exact sort of storyline and rivalry that will do nothing but bring more eyes to the sport.

WynnBET currently has DeChambeau’s odds of winning his second straight US Open set at +1400, while the two-time winner Koepka is listed at +1500, after his T2 finish at last week’s PGA Championship.

If the USGA was smart, they should immediately lock in Koepka and DeChambeau in a group together for the first and second rounds of the US Open. The pairing would also make sense given the fact that both golfers are previous winners of the event.

You’re telling me more casual fans wouldn’t tune in to the US Open if those two guys were paired together and they had cameras and microphones following them for the entire round? Of course they would.

This begs the question, if DeChambeau and Koepka are put in a group, who would be the third? The first two rounds of every golf tournament feature groups of three golfers.

My vote is for Phil Mickelson. The 50-year old will be coming off his PGA Championship in which he out-dueled Koepka in the final round. Mickelson will also be seeking his first US Open win to secure the career grand slam. Not only that, but Mickelson is one of the wittiest guys on Tour and knows how to stir the pot. WynnBET has Mickelson’s odds set at +5000 to grab the win at Torrey Pines.

Maybe you toss a guy like Jordan Spieth into the threesome with DeChambeau and Koepka. Spieth is also a former US Open champion and is one of the most vocal guys on Tour during his rounds. Usually he’s talking to his ball, but throw him in between Koepka and DeChambeau and who knows what happens.

If you want pure chaos, put Patrick Reed into the group. The former Masters champion is one of the most disliked guys on Tour after repeated allegations of cheating and his controversial past. Koepka may explode having to play two rounds with Reed and DeChambeau.

Whoever you think should the third golfer should be, pairing DeChambeau and Koepka in a group for the first two rounds of the US Open seems like a layup for the USGA, which probably means it won’t happen.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that these two guys end up as the final pairing on Sunday. That would simply be must-watch tv.
