BYU remains one of the best non Power 5 teams in college football and now gets the eyes of the national audience as the lone Thursday night game.

The Cougars are led by the big arm of Jaren Hall, but his talented skill position group continues to be tested by injury. Will the Cougs be challenged against last seasons Mountain West champions Utah State, or will the Aggies poor start continue in Provo on Thursday night?

Let's check out this early weekend action between two in-state foes by first looking at odds from FanDuel Sportsbook:

Utah State vs. BYU Odds, Spread and Total

Utah State vs. BYU Betting Trends

  • Utah State is 0-4 against the spread (ATS) this season
  • Utah State is 0-4 to the OVER this season
  • BYU is 2-1 ATS as a favorite this season
  • BYU is 3-1 to the OVER this season

Utah State vs. BYU Prediction and Pick

This has been a harsh fall from grace for Blake Anderson and the Aggies, who won the Mountain West in his first season, but are now 1-3 with a loss to FCS foe Weber State in the process.

They now face their toughest test of the season against BYU on the road, but I actually think the Aggies are the side to take in this one, mainly because of injuries to the Cougars side and their next opponent.

BYU has been without star receiver Gunner Romney all season, who is recovering from a lacerated kidney and No. 2 wideout Parker Nacua played for the first time since Week 1 after suffering a high ankle sprain. However, Nacua left the game in the second half with another injury, so his availability is in question again. On a short week, I'm not super confident given how head coach Kalani Sitake typically handles injuries.

Meanwhile, the Cougars head to Las Vegas next weekend to face Notre Dame in a high profile matchup. Is this wounded team looking to run it up on a lowly opponent? I'm going to say no.

I'll wait to see if this gets to +24, but I can see Utah State staying within earshot against BYU in a lookahead spot for the Cougars.
