The UTEP Miners head into the Sun Bowl this weekend to do battle with the UTSA Roadrunners. The Miners are having a fantastic season thus far with a 6-2 record and are currently second in the Conference USA West. UTEP will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Florida Atlantic last weekend. The Miners mounted a great comeback against the Owls but just fell short at the end.

UTSA is having an even better year and currently lead the Conference USA West with a perfect 8-0 record. They are led by Quarterback Frank Harris and running back Sincere McCormick and head into this game as double-digit favorites. It will be interesting to see where the CFP committee ranks UTSA this week but either way, they are the team to beat in their division.

Here are the odds for this Conference USA matchup, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

UTSA vs. UTEP Prediction and Pick

This will be one of the most important games that UTSA has played in quite some time, maybe ever. The Roadrunners have a great matchup to keep their perfect season going and hopefully climb closer to the Top-10 in rankings. The 8-0 start to the year matches the program record for season wins, and is ranked for the first time in its 10 years as a program. The school rewarded coach Jeff Traylor with a $28 million contract today.

As far as betting goes, UTSA has also been magic at covering spreads. With a 7-1 ATS record, UTSA has become one of the more trusted teams each week. Its lone ATS loss was against UNLV as 21-point favorites in a game where they barely won by seven.

I don’t see UTEP putting up that kind of fight against UTSA and I expect a to hear Sincere McCormick’s name called a lot during this game. I realize that UTEP has a strong defense, ranking in the top -10 in opponent yards per game and fourth in red-zone scoring, but they will only slow down McCormick and Harris.

Prediction: UTSA -11.0 (-110)
