Vegas Expects a Big Year for Mike Davis in First Year with Falcons
New Atlanta Falcons running back Mike Davis played his hand perfectly.
When Christian McCaffrey got hurt in Carolina, Davis stepped in, played excellent football and parlayed that into a full-time starting role in Atlanta.
Davis signed with the Falcons on a 2-year/$5 million dollar contract. They’ll need Davis’ skills after the Todd Gurley experiment didn’t work out towards the end of the year. Davis played 14 games as a Carolina Panther last season, and oddsmakers liked what they saw. Coming into this year, Davis’ odds show that he has their full respect.
WynnBET set Davis’ odds to lead the league in rushing at +3000 (30/1). Davis is tied with Washington’s Antonio Gibson, who’s getting a lot of preseason hype himself, for the eighth-best odds to accomplish the feat.
In order for Davis to be at the top of the league, he’ll have to increase his efficiency. I want to cut him some slack because he ran behind the Panthers’ offensive line, but he still needs to get more out of his carries. He averaged just 3.9 yards per carry, 44th in the league.
Overall, Davis finished last season with 642 yards rushing and 373 yards receiving for over 1,000 total yards. He showed his versatility, which drew Atlanta to sign him.
The Falcons had two different backs split time last year. Gurley started 15 games, but saw some of his carries eventually go to Brian Hill. Gurley averaged 3.5 yards per carry, while Hill averaged 4.7. Depending on which offensive line Davis gets, he could easily be on the higher side of that stat.
The Falcons will still lean heavily on the pass, but Davis adds another dimension to their offense.
Don’t be surprised to look up and see Davis’ name getting higher and higher on the yards list.
