Vegas Expects Chris Paul's Strong NBA Finals to Continue in Game 4
By Peter Dewey
The Phoenix Suns may have lost Game 3 of the NBA Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks, but Chris Paul was still up to his usual tricks in the loss.
The Suns point guard put up 19 points and nine assists while shooting 8-for-14 from the field, but Phoenix didn’t have enough firepower to slow down Giannis Antetokounmpo on the other end.
While Paul’s performance was technically his worst statistical game of the series, he saw his NBA Finals MVP odds rise on WynnBET to -260 following the loss. Antetokounmpo, who is a great bet at +200, is in second while both Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton are significantly behind.
WynnBET obviously still believes in Paul, and it shows in his player props for Game 4 this Wednesday night. Paul’s combined points and assists prop is set for 32.5 in Game 4 after WynnBET had originally posted it at 30.5. The over (-115) and under (-116) are essentially a pick’em, but Paul’s NBA Finals games show that he’s very capable of going over.
While CP3 played a series-low 33 minutes in Game 3 since the Suns were down big in the fourth, he still found a way to combine for 28 points and assist. In his two previous games, Paul had put up 41 and 31 combined points and assists.
The Suns struggled mightily in the third quarter when Paul went to the bench, as he left with a nine-point deficit, but returned two minutes later with the Suns down 93-76.
Paul is going to get as many minutes as he can handle, and Vegas clearly thinks he’s a toss up to go over or under this prop.
While I normally would be picking Paul to go over easily, I’d like to see him improve against Jrue Holiday in this series.
Despite the turnover increase, Paul has still managed to post an average of 29.5 points and assists in the two games he was defended.
Considering the fact that Ayton was in foul trouble for a lot of Game 3 which limited the Suns pick-and-roll offense, I expect Paul to reach Vegas’ projection as the Suns try and bounce back to avoid going back to Phoenix with the series tied.
