Russell Wilson is buying into new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron’s offense, but that doesn’t mean that oddsmakers are on board as well.

Wilson believes the Seattle Seahawks could be the league’s top offense in 2021 with their assortment of weapons.

“I think we can be the number one offense in football,” Wilson said on Sunday. “I don’t see why not. We’re up for it, we’re ready, we were really good last year, had a lot of great things, but we can be even better. We’ve been watching the maturation of DK [Metcalf] and the continual growth of Tyler Lockett who has been one of the best receivers in football for the past several years. Then adding Gerald [Everett], a true playmaker in the sense, and [Will] Dissly is feeling really confident right now. I’m really excited for his season, what he’s got in store. Colby [Parkinson] too as well, he’s had a really great training camp.

“You guys have seen him all over the field in practice and he’s doing a great job. Our running backs, obviously Chris Carson, what he can do. I believe he’s the best in the game, so I think for us we need to find different ways of getting him the football. I think the thing for us is executing all of the details, being aggressive, and that means every opportunity whether it’s the run or pass game. Having that aggressive mentality, every time we touch the ball, we’re scoring. I think that sense, that tempo, and that aggression going after the defense is really key.”

WynnBET has the Seahawks at +2500 to lead the NFL in scoring which is 14th on the odds list. That’s a far cry from Wilson’s claim that the team will be the top offense, but it is in line with Seattle’s struggles during the 2020 season.

The Seahawks and Wilson got off to a blistering start, but they ended up finishing 17th in total offense at the end of the year. Most of that was due to Wilson’s regression, as he failed to surpass 300 passing yards in a game from Week 9 through the rest of the season.

Maybe Waldron’s new scheme will help Wilson keep up his strong play all year, but there are better values, such as the Green Bay Packers at +1200, that have proven they can maintain a top-flight offense all season long.

Wilson, who is +1800 to win the NFL’s MVP award this season, is going to need to be the driving force for Seattle, but I wouldn’t take his belief in the Seahawks to heart until they start to prove it for more than just a few games.
