Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio has not tipped his hand in Denver’s quarterback battle, but oddsmakers are leaning towards Drew Lock after Week 1 of the preseason.

WynnBET had Lock ahead of Bridgewater in its odds to lead the NFL in passing yards, but those have shifted since Saturday’s game. Now, Lock is +15000, down from +12500, to lead the NFL in passing, but Bridgewater (who was +20000) is no longer on the odds list.

It’s surprising that Vegas made the change, as both quarterbacks had solid performances in Denver’s win. Lock was 5-for-7 passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and Bridgewater completed seven of his eight passes for 74 yards and a score.

Lock made the throw of the day, an 80-yard touchdown to KJ Hamler, and it seems that his maturity in the first preseason game has given him the edge in Vegas.

Lock struggled in his second season, but he finally has a full offseason to prepare and seems to have taken a step in the right direction. The Broncos are looking to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season when they won the Super Bowl.

If Lock continues to play the same or better than Bridgewater, he should get the first crack at the starting job considering he is still on his rookie deal. Bridgewater will be a free agent following the 2021 season.

The Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 of the preseason with Bridgewater getting the start and Lock getting a chance to show what he can do in relief.
