In classic Minnesota sports fashion, the Vikings lost two absolute heartbreakers in the first two weeks of the NFL season. They lost in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, and then missed a game-winning field goal as time expired in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. In what could have easily been a 2-0 start for the Vikings, they now enter their Week 3 game at 0-2 when they face the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks had a heartbreaking loss of their own in Week 2, as they fell to the Tennessee Titans 33-30 in overtime. Seattle gave up a game-tying field goal to the Titans with 29 seconds remaining in the game, and then allowed Tennessee to score a game-winning 36-yard field goal in OT.

The two NFC teams will try to get back on track as they meet for the fourth time in as many years. Both teams will enter the game 1-1 against the spread on the season.

Seahawks vs. Vikings Prediction and Pick

I’m going to back the Seahawks as one-point road favorites in this NFC matchup. While their recent success against the Vikings (7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS in last seven meetings) is interesting to note, I think the stats through the first two weeks tell the bigger story.

The Seahawks lead the entire NFL in yards gained per play through Week 2, averaging 7.4. They’re averaging more yards per play than teams like the Chiefs (7.3) and Bucs (6.2). They’re also tied with the Rams for the most yards per pass attempt at 10.4.

That’s bad news for a Vikings team that has been dreadful in defending the pass so far this season. They rank 25th in opponent passing yards per game (294) and 28th in opponent yards per pass attempt (9.3).

Seattle should have no problem moving the ball through the air against this Vikings team, and their defense has looked more impressive than Minnesota’s through the first two weeks as well. The Seahawks defense is giving up 5.6 yards per play, which ranks 16th in the NFL, while the Minnesota defense is giving up 6.6 yards per play which ranks 26th.

Give me Russell Wilson and the Seahawks as slight one-point favorites on Sunday afternoon. The game is set to begin at 4:25pm eastern.
