North Carolina's season is in turmoil now that star quarterback Devin Leary is out for the season with a shoulder injury.

The Wolfpack did get a bye to get settled into the Jack Chambers era after he struggled at Syracuse the previous week. He will play in front of a home crowd against a poor Virginia Tech team that has looked lost on offense.

Will NC State's defense lead the way and make up for the team's now nonexistent passing game? Let's break it all down:

Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina State Prediction and Pick

The Wolfpack will get a bye to scheme up an offense that can utilize Chambers ability as a runner. He is not an effective passer at all and the Virginia Tech defense has been rock solid under first year head coach Brent Pry, who was the defensive coordinator at Penn State. The team is 19th in defensive success rate, but 123rd on offense, according to gameonpaper.com.

The Hokies rush defense is just middle of the road according to advanced metrics, but I'm concerned that the Wolfpack can win with margin given that Chambers is such a non factor in the passing game. He came in for the injured Leary three weeks ago against Florida State and didn't complete a pass in a quarter and a half.

Two weeks ago at Syracuse, he completed 18-of-30 passes for 60 yards while rushing 19 times for 58 yards. It's clear that he can't stretch the field and this game can be a crawl.

Virginia Tech's offense will go up against one of the best defenses in the country in NC State, 17th in success rate, so I'm not counting on them to rattle off points either. Neither team plays all that fast, Va. Tech is 51nd in plays per minute and NC State is 90th, so I'll take the under in what should be a rockfight.
