Virginia Tech vs. Old Dominion Prediction: Brent Pry Could Get off to a Rocky Start at Tech
By Josh Yourish
Brent Pry begins his tenure at Virginia Tech against another former Penn State assistant, Ricky Rahne and Old Dominion. ODU hosts Tech on Friday night after qualifying for a bowl game last year. That came after Rahne’s team started 1-6.
There is a lot of turnover in Blacksburg as the Hokies try to get back to their winning ways under Pry and ODU seems to be rolling into their third year under Rahne after closing 2021 hard.
So, which former Penn State coordinator will prevail in the cross state battle down in Norfolk Virginia?

The line on this game really hasn’t moved at all since earlier in the week. There is little faith in Virginia Tech on the road, even though they are seven point favorites.
Virginia Tech vs. Old Dominion Best Bet and Prediction
There is so much turnover with the Hokies in the transition to Pry. There is faith that he will be able to put together a really good defense like he did in Happy Valley and that might happen early, but the offense is a long way away. Braxton Burmeister left, so now it is Marshall transfer, Grant Wells at quarterback.
Wells will lead an offense that only returns four starters from last year. Old Dominion on the other side returns most of their offense from last season. Quarterback, Hayden Wolff returns after a solid sophomore season and seems poised to take the next step this year. He threw for almost 2,000 yards and 10 touchdowns last year. More importantly, Zack Kuntz is back at tight-end. He was First Team All-Conference USA with 73 catches for 692 yards and five touchdowns.
In this one I side with continuity. Virginia Tech was bad last year and might even take a step back in its first year under Pry.
Pick: Old Dominion +7
