There are two quality football teams in Western New York this season, both the Buffalo Bills professionally and Syracuse Orange in college.

The Orange won a thriller against Purdue at home in Week 3 and now look to build on their 3-0 record against ACC foe Virginia, who is sputtering out of the gate after changes in coaches around quarterback Brennan Armstrong.

Syracuse is now a double-digit favorite against Virginia on Friday night, can it live up to expectations?

Here are the odds from FanDuel Sportsbook:

Virginia vs. Syracuse Odds, Spread and Total

Virginia vs. Syracuse Betting Trends

  • Syracuse is 8-8-1 against the spread (ATS) as a home favorite of a touchdown or more since the 2011 season.
  • Syracuse is 28-20-1 ATS in ACC since the start of the 2018 season
  • Virginia is 27-20-1 ATS in conference play since the start of the 2018 season
  • Virginia is 11-10 as a conference underdog since the start of the 2018 season

Virginia vs. Syracuse Prediction and Pick

Virginia's offense has fallen off a cliff as the team transition's into the Tony Elliot era. UVA was fifth in yards per play last season with Brennan Armstrong playing under the tutelage of offensive coordinator of Robert Anae.

Now, Armstrong is still at quarterback, but Anae is with the Orange, and the Cavaliers offense has slipped to 84th in YPP. Meanwhile, the Orange offense has taken off, scoring 30 or more points in all three games this season.

The offense is quite dynamic as Garrett Shrader has taken a step forward at quarterback and flanked by running back Sean Tucker, who is tracking towards breaking the school's rushing record. All of a sudden, the Orange have an offense that can match some of the top competition in the ACC.

Syracuse's defense has been strong as well, especially on the defensive line, The team is top third of the country in defensive line yards and can attack a rebuilding Virginia offensive line that has allowed nine sacks in three games.

Both teams have played very methodically. Syracuse has been outside the top 90 nationally in plays per minute each week this season and while the offense is humming, UVA's defense has been top third in both explosive rush and pass defense.

I think this game is lower scoring than expected. Outside of the team's Week 1 win over Richmond (51 total points), both of the Cavaliers' games have been very low scoring, combining for 57 points.

I'll take the under here down to 51.5
