The Wake Forest Demon Deacons still covered the spread in Week 1 in a big win over VMI, and now get their starting quarterback for Week 2 with Sam Hartman now reportedly cleared to play.

Meanwhile, the Vanderbilt Commodores have been one of the busiest teams in college football. They got a big win at Hawaii in Week 0 and came back to beat Elon 42-31 last week. Now, they’re 2-0 as they face the Deacons in conference play

Wake Forest vs. Vanderbilt Prediction and Pick

Mike Wright was electric for Vanderbilt in Week 0 against Hawaii. He threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 163 and two more scores. Then against Elon, he went 18-for-29 for 245 yards and four TDs, and again ran for 84 yards and two more touchdowns. Wright only started five games in his sophomore year, but now as a junior he looks like a quarterback who can carry Vanderbilt. At least against inferior competition.

Wake Forest is a big favorite coming off of their big win over the Virginia Military Academy. They gained over 500 total yards and put up 44 points with Mitch Griffis at quarterback. Griffis is a redshirt freshman, but has been on campus for three years and was seeing action with Hartman away from the team. If Hartman is guaranteed to be back, that changes things, but nothing is official as of today.

Griffis looked good against VMI, but I’m not sure if he can be trusted against Vandy.

I’ve seen more from Wright than Griffis so far and I can’t trust Griffis as a 10.5-point favorite on the road.

PICK: Vanderbilt +10.5 (-110)
