Washington State vs. Fresno State Prediction and Odds for Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl
By Reed Wallach
The LA Bowl has a similar feel to last season with the Mountain West champion taking on a PAC-12 foe. Last season was Utah State beating Oregon State and this season it's Fresno State taking on Washington State.
Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener returned midseason from an ankle injury and the Bulldogs took off, winning out in the Mountain West and winning on the road in the Conference Championship game. Now, he looks to cap off an incredble career at Fresno in nearby Los Angeles against a Washington State team that may be a skeleton crew come kickoff.
Let's set the odds and dish out a best bet:
Washington State vs. Fresno State Odds, Spread and Total
Washington State vs. Fresno State Betting Trends
- Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford is 5-5 against the spread (ATS) in bowl games
- Washington State Jake Dickert is 0-1 ATS in bowl games in bowl games
- Washington State is 8-4 ATS this season
- Fresno State is 4-2 ATS and 6-0 SU since Jake Haener returned from injury
Washington State vs. Fresno State Prediction and Pick
There is a laundry list of opt outs and injuries on the Washington State side, including several key defensive players at linebacker, including firs team All-PAC-12 Daiyan Henley. Further, two starting receivers entered the transfer portal and another WR in Renard Bell will miss the game due to injury.
This is big trouble against a Fresno State team that is humming on the offensive side of the ball with Haener back. The team has scored at least 30 points in five of the six games with the only one being on the road in the Mountain West title game against Boise State.
Washington State's offense has been up and down this season and throw the ball at a top 10 rate. With limited receivers for quarterback Cameron Ward to throw to, how do the Cougars keep pace? The Fresno State offense is still top 30 in success rate when you factor in the loss of Haener for nearly half the season, and I can't envision the Cougars will keep up.
I expect the crowd to favor Fresno State with it being played in nearby Los Angeles as SoFi Stadium, and I expect this game to get lopsided quickly. I'll lay it with the Bulldogs.
