The Washington Huskies and Michael Penix Jr. just keep throwing the ball all over the yard and got another shootout win last week. This time 49-39 against Arizona to move to 5-2. The California Golden Bears have a bit of a different formula that’s led them to their 3-3 record and a 20-12 overtime loss to Colorado a week ago.

Will Washington just keep playing fast and throwing the ball or will Cal find a way to make the Huskies play their game? Let’s see what Vegas thinks about this Pac 12 matchup.

Washington vs. Cal Prediction and Pick

Washington has the No. 1 passing offense in yards per game and obviously that makes Michael Penix Jr. the leading passer in the country. Last week he threw the ball 44 times, completing 36 of them for 516 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball three times for 13 yards and another touchdown. He is doing it all for the Huskies, and if they hadn’t slipped up against a bad Arizona State team he would be firmly in the Heisman trophy conversation.

That style of attack will be a problem for Cal and their 98th ranked passing defense. The Golden Bears allow 258.7 passing yards per game and 1.7 passing touchdowns per game. Washington averages 380 yards through the air per game. The Huskies also run the 17th most plays in the nation compared to Cal with the 71st most.

Washington has yet to be held under 30 points this season and Cal has only scored 30 twice all year, there is almost no conceivable way for Cal to keep up with Penix Jr. Jack Plummer would have to have the game of his life. Even against Washington’s defense that gives up 28.6 points per game, I don’t see it happening.

Pick: Washington -7.5 (-106)
