Washington vs. Giants Over/Under Sees Big Move
By Peter Dewey
It’s safe to say that there won’t be many points scored in the Thursday Night Football matchup between the New York Giants and Washington Football Team.
Washington lost starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a hip injury in the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, so Taylor Heinicke will be throwing passes to Terry McLaurin in Week 2.
The Giants finished with the second-fewest points in the NFL last season, and Washington wasn’t much better, finishing with the third-fewest points. Yikes.
The oddsmakers at WynnBET Sportsbook have moved the total for this game from 42.5 down to 40.5, which is the lowest total of any game so far in the 2021 season. With that in mind, here’s who I like in Thursday’s primetime matchup:
Washington vs. Giants Prediction and Pick
The two teams combined for 29 points in Week 1, and even though recent history tells us the over is the play in this matchup, I don’t think Heinicke or Daniel Jones is going to light the scoreboard up.
Washington has one of the NFL’s better defenses, and the Football Team’s pass rush of Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Daron Payne, and Jonathan Allen may have a field day against a Giants offensive line that allowed two sacks against the Denver Broncos in Week 1.
Plus, Jones struggles to hold onto the football, as he’s fumbled 30 times, losing 24 of them, in just 28 career games. That is an insane number, and his lack of ball security could make for a defensive-oriented contest on Thursday.
I’ll take Washington to win outright in this one at -180 odds on WynnBET, but the real losers here are the NFL fans that have to watch a Jones-Heinicke Week 2 matchup after we were treated to a great game between Tom Brady and Dak Prescott last Thursday.
