Western Michigan vs. Northern Illinois Prediction and Pick
The NIU Huskies have to be considered one of the most improved college basketball teams when compared with last season. The Huskies were winless last season in the MAC and this season went 6-1 and won the division. They have covered seven of their 11 games this season and their only SU loss came at the hands of Kent State.
Jay Ducker has been a big reason for the Huskies’ turnaround and has run for 100-plus yards in four of his last five games. Between him, and mobile QB Rocky Lombardi, this Huskies offense is very potent. The junior has 2,314 passing yards and 390 yards rushing in 11 games. He does need to work on his turnovers with a 13/7 touchdown to interception ratio.
The Huskies’ biggest weakness is their defense that has surrendered at least 27-points in four straight outings. Their passing defense is the major issue and ranks 115th in the nation at stopping opposing quarterbacks.
This game is tricky by virtue of the fact that NIU has already clinched a spot at the championship game and might be looking past this game. However, their recent results are impossible to ignore having won seven of their last eight and a 6-2 ATs record in those games. The Broncos are 1-4 in their last four games and their defense is shaky at best.
Look for NIU to win their season finale in preparation for the conference championship game on Dec. 4.
Pick: NIU +135 to win
