Western Michigan vs. Toledo Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 8
By Matt De Saro
The Glass Bowl will be host to the Western Michigan Broncos in Week 8 to take on the Toledo Rockets in MAC action. The Broncos are coming off a 33-point win over Kent State as 7.0 point favorites. It was their first cover since September after going 0-1-1 ATS the last two weeks. Western Michigan pushed as 7.0 point favorites against Buffalo before losing by 25 to Ball State as 13.0 point favorites. It was nice to see them bounce back after the huge loss to Ball State but does make me think twice about trusting the Broncos as favorites in this game. Despite their ATS record and that brutal loss, the Broncos are 5-2 on the season and look poised to make a run at the top spot in the MAC West.
Things have gone much worse for Toledo the last couple of weeks, both SU and ATS. The Rockets are 0-2 both SU and ATS in the last two weeks with losses to Northern Illinois as 13.0 point favorites and Central Michigan as 5.0 favorites. So, not only did they not cover, they lost two weeks on the trot as betting favorites. Their last cover came against U-Mass in Week 5, the 129th ranked team in the nation.
With two conference rivals heading in different directions, which makes the best bet for Week 8? Maybe neither. Here are the odds for Week 8 MAC-tion, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

Western Michigan vs. Toledo Prediction and Pick
The Broncos are not only the better team in this game but also have a lot more to play for at this point. Currently, Toledo is just trying to finish above .500. In the meantime, Western Michigan is in the race for the MAC West with Ball State (2-1), Central Michigan (2-1), and Northern Illinois (3-0).
Western Michigan will be led this weekend by QB Kaleb Eleby who has passed for 1,745 yards and 12 touchdowns this season with just two picks. Eleby is flanked by receivers Skyy Moore and Corey Crooms who have combined to go over 1,000 yards this year and 8 TDs. The combo is averaging 265.5 passing yards per play which ranks them 35th in the country. Their defense is the weaker side of the ball for the Broncos, but they still rank 44th in yards per game allowed so nothing too tragic.
On the other side of the field, Toledo will be led by Carter Bradley who has passed for 962 yards and four touchdowns this year to go with a single INT. Receivers Devin Maddox and Isaiah Winstead lead the receiving core with a combined 656 yards and three touchdowns. While these numbers appear pretty below average, it is because they are. Where Toledo really “shines” if you can put it that way is on defense.
The Rockets have the 23rd ranked defense in terms of points per game allowed and 25th in yards per game. They are particularly effective in the air, limiting opposing teams to an 11th best 5.9 yards per pass and just 181 passing yards per game.
Luckily for the Broncos, they are a run-first team, ranking 13th in the nation with 45.3 rushes per game. While the Rockets rushing defense is not exactly bad, I believe it will be their downfall against the Broncos. Western Michigan is a better team heading in the right direction and looking stronger in each game.
Prediction: Western Michigan -2.0 (-110)
