The Super Bowl is underway and we have the results of one of the most popular annual props at the big game. The result of the coin toss. In case you missed it, the Cincinnati Bengals won the toss, which was heads and chose to defer.

Only 25 times in the last 55 years has the team who won the coin toss gone on to win the Super Bowl. In fact, the last time a team won the toss and the game was back in 2014 when the Seattle Seahawks managed the feat.

While the outcome is a literal coin flip, there are still some historical trends to update now that the flip has occurred. Believe it or not, there are winning streaks just like a sports team so let's see how tonight’s result changed the historical numbers.

Heading into tonight, tails had a lead in the all-time win/loss column with a 29-26 record. Last season, for example, the Kansas City Chiefs won the toss with a call of heads but eventually dropped the game to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nothing could have happened tonight for tails to lose them but heads made up some ground on their arch-rival.

With the win, heads in now 4-1 over the last five years and 10-5 over the last 15. Heads in now riding a small two-year win streak as we wait to see what happens in 2023.

Stay tuned for more Super Bowl prop updates all night long.
