The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most storied franchises in NHL history. They were among the Original Six teams in the league and won the very first Stanley Cup back in the 1917-18 season. Now, more than 100 years later, the Maple Leafs are still battling it out on the ice for a chance to take home the cup.

My colleague, Iain MacMillan, has a great preview of Game 1 of the Leaf’s opening-round series against the Lightning. I wanted to take a look back at the Stanley Cup history of the Toronto Maple Leafs and see if we can learn anything from it.

Is this the year the Maple Leafs' curse finally ends? We discuss their shot at the Cup below!

When Was the Maple Leafs’ Last Stanley Cup Win?

The one major takeaway from going over the Maple Leafs’ Stanley Cup history is that they must have a strong fanbase. That is because this team has been a tragedy to root for over the last 60 years. The last time Toronto fans experienced glory was on May 2, 1967. That was the day that the Maple Leafs beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 in Game 6 to win their 13th Stanley Cup. Little would anyone know that they would be stuck at lucky number 13 for the next six decades. It is by far the longest drought in NHL history with the Panthers second at 24 seasons.

Things haven’t been great in recent years either. The Leafs have only won a single playoff series since 2004 and missed the playoffs entirely in ten of the last 16 seasons. Suffice to say, life as a Maple Leafs fan must be hard.

Toronto Maple Leafs’ Odds to Win 2022 Stanley Cup.

For those Toronto fans looking for this losing streak to end, this might be the best chance the Leafs have had in years. For starters, they won more games (54) this season than any year in their 100+ year history. As a result, the Maple Leafs are listed +1000 at WynnBET Sportsbook to win the Stanley Cup. Toronto is also +500 to win the Eastern Conference and -115 to win their first-round series against Tampa Bay.
