For the 16th consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Penguins have made the playoffs.

They'll take on the New York Rangers in the first round after finishing third in the Metropolitan Division with a 46-25-11 record.

BetSided's own Iain MacMillan thinks the Rangers have an edge in the series, but the Penguins certainly have a championship pedigree that can carry them on a deep run.

Let's take a gander at their illustrious playoff history ahead of this first round matchup:

When Was the Last Time the Penguins Won the Stanley Cup?

The Penguins last won the Stanley Cup in 2017. That championship was their second straight, and they added a third in 2009 to give them three titles in the last 13 seasons.

In total, Pittsburgh has won the Stanley Cup five times (1991, 1992) and also made the Finals in 2008 but ultimately fell short.

While the Penguins have made the playoffs every year since winning the Cup in 2017, they haven't made it past the Conference Semi-Finals. What are their odds to return to the promised land after falling short the last five seasons?

Penguins Odds to Win Eastern Conference, Stanley Cup

WynnBET Sportsbook currently has the Penguins listed at +900 to win the Eastern Conference and +2000 to win the Stanley Cup.

These are the sixth-best odds to win the East and ninth-lowest to win the championship, so the Penguins face an uphill climb to win their sixth Stanley Cup in franchise history.

If they upset the Rangers, Pittsburgh will face the winner of the Hurricanes vs Bruins series in Round 2.
