When Was the Last Time the Tampa Bay Lightning Made the Stanley Cup Final?
By Josh Yourish
It has been a staggering 334 day drought since the Lightning last played in a Stanley Cup Final game. Way back on July 7th 2021, Tampa Bay clinched their third Stanley Cup and second in as many years.
On Sunday night, the Lightning came from behind to defeat New York 3-2 and avoid going behind 3-0 in the series. They now sit three wins away from a third straight appearance in the Cup Final.
Remember this tweet.
As weird and hilarious as it was for the team twitter account to apologize for getting swept in the first round by the Blue Jackets, it worked. The Lightning have yet to lose a playoff series since that tweet was sent and until this series with the Rangers, they had not even lost back-to-back games in the playoffs.
Lightning Odds to Win Eastern Conference, Stanley Cup
The Lightning currently sit at +120 in the WynnBET Sportsbook to come from behind to defeat New York and get back to the Cup Finals. They have the third best odds, of the remaining four teams, of winning the cup at +450. Obviously Colorado is a -220 favorite to win it all after going up 3-0 on Edmonton, with a chance to finish off Connor McDavid’s crew tonight.
This run by the Lightning has been impressive, but the first cup came in a covid bubble and plenty of teams have gone back-to-back. Three straight though would put them in another stratosphere as far as NHL dynasties go. The last time a team won three in a row was a New York team, but it was the Islanders, who actually won four straight from 1980-1983.
