White Sox vs. Astros Prediction and Odds for Sunday, June 19 (Houston's Depth Will Be Difference)
By Reed Wallach
The Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox are set to finish their weekend series at Minute Maid Park on Sunday Night Baseball.
Two young pitchers are set to take the mound on primetime with the White Sox hoping Michael Kopech is healthy enough to shut down the Astros vaunted lineup. Kopech left his last start early with an ankle injury, but is expected to give a full outing on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Astros will look to get another solid outing from emerging star Cristian Javier.
Here are the odds for Sunday's series finale from WynnBET Sportsbook:
White Sox vs. Astros Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- White Sox: +1.5 (-160)
- Astros: -1.5 (+130)
Moneyline:
- White Sox: +138
- Astros: -148
Total: 7.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
White Sox vs. Astros Prediction and Pick
Kopech has a ton of promise, but I'm not sure I can trust him after he left in the first inning of his last start with an ankle injury. He has said he is fine, but the Astros aren't going to chase his off-speed pitches, second lowest strikeout rate in June, and are strong at generating run scoring chances. Houston is fourth this month in wRC+ and should put pressure on Kopech to throw strikes.
Meanwhile, Javier has emerged as a star for the Astros, pitching to his full potential in 2022. He is pitching to a 3.20 ERA and his FIP suggests he should be doing even better. A key reason why is he is limiting his walks, down more than one per 9 innings this season, while still striking out more than 11 batters per 9 innings.
Chicago is still nursing injuries in the lineup and are far from full strength, while the Astros continue to be one of the best offenses in the league as they separate from the competition in the AL West. On Sunday night, I'll trust the deeper team to take care of business and close out the series on a high note.
LEAN: Astros ML -148
