White Sox vs. Cubs Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, May 4 (Trust Giolito at Wrigley Field)
By Reed Wallach
The Windy City Showdown continues on Wednesday with a pair of aces on the mound.
The White Sox took the first of 3 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night and will look to make it two in a row with ace Lucas Giolito. The Cubbies will counter with Kyle Hendricks, who is still looking to find his footing in 2022 as Chicago slides out of the NL Central race.
Who has the edge in this Chicago showdown? Here are the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
White Sox vs. Cubs Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- White Sox: -1.5 (+120)
- Cubs: +1.5 (-145)
Moneyline:
- White Sox: -147
- Cubs: +137
Total: 7 (Over +100/Under -120)
White Sox vs. Cubs Prediction and Pick
It's not pretty, but I like the White Sox to roll on Wednesday night. Giolito has been fantastic as expected to start the season despite missing a string of starts in April. He has a 2.57 ERA while fanning nearly 15 batters per 9 innings. Now, he will face a Cubs lineup that is struggling to make contact. The team may be third in the bigs in on-base percentage, but is 10th in batting average. Giolito must limit his walk rate that is touching 4 per 9 innings, but I trust him against a Cubs offense that hasn't scored more than 2 runs since April 27th.
On the other side, I can't trust Hendricks to keep up with the White Sox lineup that is looking to erase a slow start to the season. The team has won two straight games after dropping four consecutive series. Hendricks has an ERA north of 5.00 that is supported by a FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) over 5.00 as well. The stalwart of the Cubs rotation over the last near decade has a walk rate over 4, which is hyper concerning as he is someone who depends on his control to get batters out considering his fastball sits in the low 90's.
I feel like Hendricks reputation continues to be baked into the moneyline in his starts, but his downward trend is noticeable and I'll fade him once again on Wednesday with the better pitcher in Giolito.
LEAN: White Sox -150
