The Cleveland Guardians have owned the Chicago White Sox so far in 2022.

Through six games, the Guardians are 5-1 vs. the Sox; nearly doubling them up in runs scored 40-22 through six games.

Now, Chicago has to play two against Cleveland in a day-night doubleheader at Progressive Field, with Game 1 at 1:10 p.m. ET against a starter that's also had a massive run of success against them.

We'll dive into Shane Bieber's prowess against the South Siders shortly, but so far on the season, he's had the most inconsistent season of his young career. Meanwhile, Chicago counters with right-hander Davis Martin; who's also been up-and-down throughout 2022.

Will we get the Jekyll or Hyde version of both these pitchers this afternoon?

White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction and Pick

At first glance, Bieber's 3-5 record with a 3.44 ERA would indicate that it's another ho-hum awesome year for the Guardians' ace. Unfortunately, there's several metrics indicating his inconsistencies.

His strikeouts are way down this season. After averaging 12.48 K/9 a season ago, Bieber's dropped by more than three punchouts in 2022 (9.22).

On the positive side, despite his solid ERA, his Fielder Independent Pitching, (FIP) is actually lower than his ERA at 2.81; indicating he's had some tough luck along the way as well.

As for White Sox starter Davis Marin, his 4.29 ERA is mitigated by his expected ERA of over 5. He hasn't pitched for the Sox since June 21, when he allowed three runs in 0.1 innings to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bieber owns a 6-2 lifetime record vs. the Sox with a 2.48 ERA. With Chicago floundering in the AL Central, along with Martin on the mound, I'll back Cleveland to cover on the run line and earn some plus-value in the process.

LEAN: Guardians RL -1.5 (+127)
