White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction and Odds for Friday, August 19th (Trust McKenzie at Home)
By Reed Wallach
We have a massive AL Central series going down this weekend in Clevleand.
The White Sox hit the road following a series win over the Houston Astros to face the AL Central leading Guardians in a three game series that will help sort out the top of the division.
Chicago has underperformed all season, but still find themselves in the mix for a division win, trailing the Guardians by two games.
Injuries to the pitching staff have haunted Chicago all season long, namely Lance Lynn, who has looked far off from his best self in 2022, can he turn it on in a big matchup against the Guardians? Let's check out the odds and find the best bet:
White Sox vs. Guardians Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- White Sox: +1.5 (-185)
- Guardians: -1.5 (+160)
Moneyline:
- White Sox: +115
- Guardians: -140
Total:
- 7.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction and Pick
Cleveland starter Triston McKenzie has been great all season, but has really turned it on since the All-Star break, pitching to a 2.97 ERA in five starts. While his underlying metrics indicates he has been a bit lucky all season, his 3.14 ERA is supported by a 4.10 FIP, McKenzie has had the White Sox number this season.
The hard throwing righty has started twice against the South Siders this season, throwing 10 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out eight.
On the other side, Lynn missed the first part of the season with a torn meniscus and hasn't been the same all year, pitching to a 5.62 ERA. On the road, that number shoots up north of 7.00, meaning he can be in for a rough outing against a formidable offense like the Guardians have.
Chicago has constantly been a team that can't stay out of its own way and breakthrough as the contender they were built to be in the American League. As they get started in the biggest series of the season, I expect them to fall flat again against McKenzie and the Guardians.
LEAN: Guardians ML (-135)
