The Chicago White Sox are off to an impressive start for a team that is expected to dominate the AL Central. So far so good as the White Sox are 6-3 in their first nine games and a two-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers in second. Both teams are 4–5.

The Guardians have the opportunity to take back some ground against Chicago in Game 1 of this four-game series. Game 1 was scheduled for Monday but postponed due to weather.

Veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel will make his second start of the year for Chicago while Shane Bieber is making his third for the Guardians.

White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction and Pick

Bieber enters this game with the goal of showing the MLB that he is still an elite pitcher after winning the 2020 Cy Young. Bieber followed that up by posting a 3.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 2021. Great numbers to be sure, but well off the pace of his 2020 1.63 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 8-1 record. A shoulder issue was said to be the cause and I am curious to see what level he can ascend to this year if he is healthy. So far it looks promising as BIeber has a 2.70 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in his first two starts.

Keuchel, on the other hand, has proven time and time again that he is no longer an elite arm in the Majors. His last good season was in 2020 as a member of the Chicago White Sox. Since then, he hasn’t finished a season with an ERA lower than 5.28. He ended 2021 with a 1.53 HIP in 30 starts for the Sox. It was pretty ugly and I am surprised to see him back in this rotation for the third straight season.

The Guardians are the third-highest ranked offense in terms of batting average right now at .273. They are top five in runs scored, hits, RBIs, and on-base percentage.

Look for Bieber to continue pitching like an ace while Keuchel continues to pitch like a beat-up 34-year-old.

Pick: Guardians ML
