White Sox vs. Orioles Prediction and Odds for Thursday, August 25 (Can Lance Lynn Get on Track)
By Reed Wallach
Chicago's playoff hopes are fading fast while the Orioles are still trying to breakthrough amongst the AL East contenders.
Lance Lynn's season has been a tough one after pitching to a Cy Young level in 2021. He started the season on the IL with a torn meniscus and has struggled since returning to the rotation for the underwhelming White Sox. Now, he faces an Orioles lineup that has proven they can hit and give the righty fits.
Here are the odds for Thursday's meeting from consensus sportsbooks:
White Sox vs. Orioles Odds, Run Line and Total
Run Line:
- White Sox: -1.5 (+145)
- Orioles: +1.5 (-170)
Moneyline:
- White Sox: -120
- Orioles: +100
Total:
- 8 (Over -105/Under -115)
White Sox vs. Orioles Prediction and Pick
Lynn has posted a 5.30 ERA in 13 starts this season, a shell of his fantastic season last year. I don't envision it gets any better on Thursday afternoon when he faces a Baltimore lineup that is top five in wRC+ since the beginning of August.
The righty has struggled with limiting the long ball, allowing a career high home run rate, which can be an issue against the likes of the O's, who have been raking at home. However, I can't take them to win outright.
Baltimore starter Jordan Lyles has allowed the most hits in baseball this season, 156, which gives me pause before rushing to fade Lynn outright by taking the Orioles. Instead, I like the over as the White Sox offense has showed up but the pitching staff has let them down. Chicago is also top 10 in wRC+ in the month of August.
Give me the over as we fade both pitchers.
LEAN: OVER 9.5 (-110)
