Both the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox are among the most disappointing teams in baseball this season, at least compared to what was expected by many prognosticators.

The Red Sox enter this game ranked fourth in the AL East with a 10-15 record. Boston is 3-8 in their last 11 games and have not won a series since April 13 against the Tigers. Heck, they lost two of three from the Orioles last weekend.

The White Sox, on the other hand, are showing signs of life after a brutal start to the season. Chicago took two of four from the Angels last weekend before sweeping the Cubs in two games during their mid-week series. The White Sox beat up on their inter-city rivals by a combined score of 7-4 in the two games.

White Sox vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick

The White Sox have a ton of momentum coming off a sweep over the Cubs in the Crosstown Classic. Unfortunately, they'll need all the momentum they can get with the volatile Vince Velasquez on the hill.

Velasquez enters this series with a 4.58 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in four starts spanning 17 ⅔ innings. Despite his early-season woes, Velasquez was sharp in his last game against a dangerous Angels lineup. He pitched 5 ⅔ scoreless innings while striking out six and not issuing a walk. If Velaquez can continue down this road, the White Sox have a good chance to regain their division lead sooner than later.

Nathan Eovaldi gets the start for Boston and looks like a new man after five games of the 2022 season. Eovaldi has a career ERA of 4.14 and hasn’t finished a season below 3.70 since 2013. However, Eovaldi has a 2.51 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in his first 28 ⅔ innings pitched. While he’s looked good, I expect regression is looming.

Eovaldi is not a guy who can maintain a sub-3.00 ERA and I think tonight things could go south. This is not based on Eovaldi’s performance, which has been fantastic, to be honest. But, he is not this good! Pitchers don't have career years at 32 and Eovaldi won’t change my mind about that.

Pick: White Sox +105
