The Chicago White Sox are the team to beat in the AL Central in 2022, and they are expected to run away with the division again with 91.5 projected season wins.

One team that might have a chance to keep things interesting is the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are expected to win 77.5 games and many think that they are destined to go well over that mark If they hope to make a run at the division they are going to need to.

This Opening Day matchup is one that actually means something in terms of the standings. I do think that the Tigers have a chance to explore this year. And that all starts on Friday with the White Sox. Should they be able to beat the favored visiting team, it would set a positive tone to start the season.

Not that a loss would be all that bad. And, let's be honest, a loss against this scary White Sox team is likely on Opening Day. Here are the odds for this game, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook

White Sox vs. Tigers Prediction and Pick

I think this could be one of the closer games on Friday afternoon. There is a good chance that the young Tigers lineup will present a number of challenges for the White Sox to overcome.

Luckily, the White Sox have Lucas Giolito on the hill to start the season. The right-hander is coming off an 11-9 season where he posted a 3.53 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. Giolito also struck out 201 hitters in  178 ⅔ innings last season. He even received some votes for the Cy Young. This year could be a breakout season for Giolito and It all starts on Friday afternoon.

Despite all the hype surrounding the White Sox, I do think this game comes down to the wire. The White Sox should pull out a win but I don’t think they cover their first runline of the season.

Pick: Tigers +1.5 (-160)
