I’ve said it once before and I’ll say it again: the NFL MVP is a quarterback’s award. We all understand that. However, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t take our shot on other offensive players to sneak into the conversation. Just last year, Cooper Kupp was heavily in the MVP conversation for league MVP.

A majority of the receivers in the league have the same odds to win MVP as each other, so here are my top three picks from the wide receiver group to win the award – which would be the first time any receiver won MVP.

Best Wide Receiver Picks For MVP

Deebo Samuel: +5000

Samuel is the clear top choice here, even though he’s at odds with the organization right now. He plays wide receiver and running back and was the most dynamic player on the 49ers offense. This upcoming season Samuel is either going to have Jimmy G or Trey Lance as his quarterback. Those aren’t great situations, which means Samuel will get most of the credit if the offense performs well.

Samuel finished third last season in scrimmage yards. If he can get into the top two, or even lead the league, he’ll be in the conversation.

Justin Jefferson: +7500

The key with receivers is that the situation needs to be good enough to not hold them back, but not too good to where the quarterback gets all the praise. They need a mediocre situation to receive credit. The Minnesota Vikings are the definition of mediocre and that bodes well for Jefferson’s case.

Last year, Jefferson improved on a spectacular rookie year and caught 108 passes for 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is the Vikings’ offense. If Minnesota can sneak into the playoffs this year, Jefferson will be the reason why.

Tyreek Hill: +7500

Hill is in a new situation in Miami and no longer has Patrick Mahomes to throw him the ball. However, this bodes well for his MVP case. If Hill can put up similar numbers with Tua Tagovailoa as his quarterback, it will validate him as a receiver and a true game changer.

This pick goes with my theory that the situation has to be less than perfect for a receiver to be involved. Hill will likely be used in every way possible, so expect his scrimmage yards to rival his best seasons ever.

Honorable Mention: Cooper Kupp: +5000

There’s always an exception to the rule and that’s Cooper Kupp. Last season, Kupp had one of the best years a receiver has ever had and was actually in the MVP discussion. The reason why he’s an honorable mention is because I’m banking on a little bit of regression from the historic numbers he put up last season. Without him making history, he’s a little closer to the rest of the receivers and has the best situation around him.
