Who Will Have More Receiving Yards: Mike Evans or Chris Godwin?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers make life on Tom Brady extremely easy. They set him up with one of the best defenses in the league, a quarterback guru as a head coach and an abundance of talent at receiver.
With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown available, Tampa Bay arguably has the best receiving trio in the league. Brown came on late last year and is the No. 3 wide receiver. While he’s still great, the stars of the show are Evans and Godwin.
WynnBET has given both of them +3500 odds to lead the league in receiving yards. Evans led the team in receiving last season with 1,006 yards. Godwin had a breakout season the year prior and led the team with 1,333 yards. With their odds the same, this year is the rubber match to see who will have more yards.
On the surface, Evans would be the pick for most people. He is more well known, is 6-foot-4 and has been one of the best receivers in the league for several years. Evans does have a good case. His durability gives him more opportunities than others and he had over 100 targets since the beginning of his career.
Outside of Scottie Miller, Evans had the highest yards per reception on the team last year. He’s turned into the big-play threat and that gives him an edge.
Yet, Godwin also has an appealing case. He averages more targets per game than Evans, has a much higher catch percentage and was only 166 yards away from Evans despite missing four games. Godwin is proving to be the more efficient receiver and that can go a long way, especially with an extra game added to the schedule.
If I had to pick, I would say Godwin would get more yards than Evans. Defenses still treat Evans as a true No.1 because of his combination of size and speed, leaving Godwin to do what he wants.
Both receivers are going to have great seasons, but Brady and Godwin’s connection will be something to watch.
