Pete Carroll, Brian Daboll, Kevin O'Connell or Robert Saleh: Who Can Win NFL Coach of the Year Over Nick Sirianni?

The Philadelphia Eagles remain the lone undefeated team in football through the first half of the 2022 season, and their head coach appears to already have his name etched on the NFL Coach of the Year award in Vegas.

In his second year on the job in Philadelphia, Sirianni has the Eagles at 8-0 with nine more games still to go. This week, Philly enters their Week 10 Monday Night Football matchup against the Washington Commanders as a double-digit favorite in a divisional game at home.

Sirianni isn't the only head coach that's turned some heads this season. Several surprise teams have not only put themselves in contention for a playoff spot, but also several have a shot to win their division and potentially end up with a top seed in the conference. The Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks have all wildly exceeded Vegas' expectations through the first half of the year, but can their head coaches make up any ground on the Sirianni?

Let's take a look at the latest lines for Coach of the Year in the NFL for the 2022 season at both FanDuel Sportsbook as well as DraftKings Sportsbook:

2022 NFL Coach of the Year Odds

The Eagles will be favorites in likely all their remaining games this season, perhaps with the exception of Week 16 when they travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Christmas Eve. The further they go undefeated through the season, the more his award odds will continue to move up.

With several noteworthy candidates trailing the Eagles head coach in the odds, let's go through each of the serious contenders and evaluate whether any have a legitimate shot to overtake Sirianni down the stretch of the season.

Best NFL Coach of the Year Candidates and Picks to Win

Nick Sirianni (-135) - DraftKings Sportsbook

The consensus favorite on the board and for good reason. Philadelphia has made massive strides on both sides of the ball, and quarterback Jalen Hurts appears to be on his way to a finalist for NFL MVP in 2022.

The Eagles will be favorites in likely all their remaining games this season, perhaps with the exception of Week 16 when they travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Christmas Eve. The further they go undefeated through the season, the more his award odds will continue to move up.

PICK: Likely eventual winner, but would wait until better odds potentially arise.

Kevin O'Connell (+750) - FanDuel Sportsbook

O'Connell has made a massive impact on the Vikings this year, leading to what appears to be an easy division winner in the NFC North in his first year on the job.

Part of where he's made the Vikings successful is how they handle their scripted opening drives this year. Heading into Week 10, no team has scored more points than Minnesota on their first drive of the game.

Plus, what coach doesn't deserve some love from the media when they get their quarterback to do this dance postgame, leading into whatever it was that Adam Schefter tried to re-create on ESPN the following day.

O'Connell has his work cut out for him, however over the next month. The Vikings play at Buffalo (although Josh Allen may be out), then are home vs. Dallas, New England and the New York Jets. All four of those teams rank in the top 6 in Total DVOA Ratings: Defense at Football Outsiders.

I think we'll see some regression for the Vikings against much stiffer competition.

PICK: Pass for now.

Pete Carroll (+800) - DraftKings Sportsbook

The Seahawks are on top of what was supposed to be the toughest division in the NFC this season with a 6-3 record, despite being projected for only 5.5 wins at the start of the year. After starting off 1-2, they've gone 5-1 over their last six games.

Geno Smith has been a revelation at the quarterback position, out-dueling Russell Wilson in his return to Seattle, as well as Kyler Murray twice, and Justin Herbert. Their offense ranks fourth in points/game, second in points/play, and fourth in yards/play, while also converting at a top-5 level on 3rd Down.

Defensively, after a rough start to the year, no team has put up better numbers than Seattle the last three weeks; ranking first in the NFL in opponent yards per play.

Oh, and they have the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year cruising in Kenneth Walker III.

A win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Munich this week would likely move Carroll significantly closer towards the favorite in Sirianni, and is already down from +1300 a week ago.

This might be bettors' last chance at this value. I'm buying.

PICK: Bet Carroll at +800.

Brian Daboll (+850) - FanDuel Sportsbook

I see both sides of the Daboll argument.

On one hand, there's a case to be made against Daboll for how the team has gone about playing in the first three quarters of the majority of games this year. New York has constantly played catch up, with no real opportunities where they've looked like the better team from start to finish.

The other side of the coin is the resilience they've shown all year. They hadoutscored opponents 58-22 in the fourth quarter entering their last game vs. the aforementioned Seahawks, but this time they got outscored 14-3 down the stretch.

Despite a 6-2 record, the Giants have been one of the luckiest teams in the NFL this year, and are only +6 in net points overall. While coaching can be credited for their resolve, considering that they're four games over .500 with little statistical backing to show for it, I think this it too high of an uphill battle for Daboll the rest of the way.

PICK: Pass.

Robert Saleh (+900) - DraftKings Sportsbook

The second-year Jets head man got his moment in the sun in Week 9, knocking off the Buffalo Bills at home as a double-digit underdog vs. the spread, and more than 4/1 odds on the moneyline.

New York's defense is scary-good. Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner is the favorite at -110 to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year" and New York ranks top 5 in opponent yards per play, top four in opponent yards/rush, and top six in Defense DVOA.

The only concern here is the lack of offense without star rookie running back Breece Hall who was lost for the year with a torn ACL. New York

Meanwhile, at some point, Zach Wilson needs to do more for them than a completion percentage under 58% with 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and barely over 200 yards per game.

There's no doubt Saleh has his fingerprints all over the defensive success of this team, but Coach of the Year candidates need both sides of the ball to deliver, and playing in arguably the toughest division in football this year, I don't know if there's enough juice in the tank all season for Saleh to get there.

PICK: Pass.

Honorable Mention NFL Coach of the Year Candidates

Three coaches I don't believe will ultimately win, but expect the value for both to drop considerably over the next few weeks.

Mike McDaniel (+1400) - FanDuel Sportsbook

John Harbaugh (+6000) - DraftKings Sportsbook

Mike Vrabel (+13000) - DraftKings Sportsbook
