Will Anyone Dethrone Steph Curry as 3-Point King?
At this point, we know that Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter we’ve ever seen. When the year is over, it’s shocking to not see Curry’s name at the top of the list in 3-pointers made. In the last eight seasons Curry has been healthy (He only played five games in 2019-20), he’s led the league in 3s made six times.
Even going into his age-32 season, Curry isn’t expected to slow down.
WynnBET has Curry as the favorite to lead the league in 3s again this season with -165 odds. Curry is coming off a year in which he made 337 treys, the second-most for a season in his career.
While we know Curry will be near the top, is there any player that can steal the crown away from Curry?
The two players who would be my pick are also the next two on the odds list. Damian Lillard (+375) and Buddy Hield (+550) are the biggest threats to Curry’s dominance.
Lillard has finished third in 3s made for the last two seasons. His attempts go up each year and he won’t be stopping that trend this year. Lillard is the only player in the league that has the range and accuracy of Curry. As long as he’s going to take them, expect him to make them.
Hield, on the other hand, has been the runner-up for 3s made the last two years. Coming into the league, shooting was his strength and he’s leaned into his role in Sacramento. If he stays with the Kings, he has good value. However, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Hield and a potential move. Depending on where he goes, his role could change and affect his opportunity.
James Harden is the only player to break up Curry’s dominance, but he’s the facilitator in Brooklyn which means his volume has taken a big drop.
As of now, we should all just look at Curry and expect another season of leading the league in 3-point shooting.
