Wimbledon Odds: Novak Djokovic Extends Lead on Roger Federer
We’re finally reaching the home stretch of Wimbledon with the Men’s quarterfinals beginning tomorrow.
The Gentlemen’s side of the bracket has been filled with upsets galore, as Novak Djokovic is the only top five seed left in the tournament. No. 2 Daniil Medvedev lost in five sets to unranked Hubert Hurkacz and No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev also lost in five sets to No. 16 ranked Felix Auger Aliasseme.
With four of the top five gone, Djokovic now has a clear a path to get to the final. WynnBET has set his odds to win the tournament at -250, which is an improvement upon his odds before the tournament started, which were -112. Djokovic is trying to capture the third leg of a calendar slam -- a feat that’s only been accomplished by two other men in the history of tennis. Next up for him is unranked Martin Fucsovics.
After Djokovic, the next highest-seeded player is Roger Federer. Federer is the No. 6 seed and will play Hurkacz in the quarterfinal. Federer has the tougher side of the bracket as the lowest-seeded player is the No. 16 seed. Because of Medvedev’s loss, Federer now has the second-shortest odds at +550, which is still a ways away from Djokovic.
For Djokovic, there’s a possibility that he plays an unranked player and the No. 25 seeded player in order to get to the final, which would be music to his ears.
For tennis fans everywhere, a Djokovic-Federer final would be fantastic. Djokovic would tie the men’s record (which Federer holds) for most Grand Slams, and Federer would extend his lead on that record if he can manage to get the win.
The last time they faced off in a major, the result was a five-set, classic match won by Djokovic. With Djokovic as the heavy favorite, it seems like a lock to put him there. We can only hope Federer can find his way through the bracket to meet him in the final.
