Wisconsin vs. Georgia Tech Prediction and Odds: Bet on the Badgers Defense to Beat GT

The No. 23 Wisconsin Badgers will try to remain in the AP Top 25 and maintain a three-game win streak when they head to McCamish Pavilion to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Both teams enter Wednesday night with identical 5-1 records. 

The Badgers are coming off a big win in the finals of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational over Saint Mary’s 61-55. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, are on a five-game winning streak after losing a tight game on opening night to Miami (Ohio) 72-69.

Wisconsin vs. Georgia Tech Prediction and Pick

After opening up the season with a couple of easy wins over St. Francis-Brooklyn and Green Bay, the Badgers lost their third game to Providence as favorites. It was a good sign to see Wisconsin bounce right back and win the Maui Invitational. The Badgers beat Texas A&M and the No. 12 ranked team in the nation, the Houston Cougars. They won and covered all three of their games in the tournament. 

Wisconsin’s offense does need to step up a bit more, as it currently ranks 75th in adjusted efficiency ratings. Even worse, it ranks 287th in effective field goal percentage. Luckily, the Badgers' defense has picked up the slack and is doing a good job of controlling games and they are shooting nearly 90 percent from the charity stripe. They ranks seventh in adjusted efficiency defensively and will be a hard test for the Georgia Tech offense to pass. 

In stark contrast, the Yellow Jackets have been very good on offense, especially from deep. Georgia Tech is hitting 41.1 percent of its 3-point attempts but is just 63.5 percent from the free-throw line. 

I think that the Badgers defense gets the better of Georgia Tech in this game, especially if the Yellow Jackets are forced to rely on the deep ball. Georgia Tech has played a much easier schedule thus far and I don’t think it is ready for Wisconsin. The underdog win at the Maui Invitation has the Badgers momentum at a season high, and I’m riding them tonight.
