The Washington Wizards head to the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night to square off against the Sacramento Kings, who will be without their head coach Alvin Gentry after a positive COVID test.

Washington continues their road trip after getting beat by the Denver Nuggets 113-107 Monday evening. It was a sobering loss for the Wizards who have hit a wall after losing five of their last six games overall. The loss drops Washington to 15-13 on the year and into second place in the Southeast Division. They remain one game behind the Miami Heat for the division lead.

Meanwhile, things aren’t going much better for the Kings. They also lost on Monday after getting beat up by the Toronto Raptors 124-101 on the road. It was the team’s third straight loss and they will be happy to head back home to try and pick up a win.

The loss on Monday dropped the Kings to 11-17 on the season and currently sit in last place in the Pacific Division 13.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors and four games out of the last playoff spot in the West.

Wizards vs. Kings Prediction and Pick

This is an interesting matchup between two teams who just can’t seem to buy a win recently. The Kings are losing because of their swiss cheese defending and rank 29th in the NBA in scoring defense. They are 7th in the league in scoring offense but it just hasn’t been enough to overcome the mistakes on the other end of the court.

The Wizards, on the other hand, have kind of the opposite problem. They are having trouble scoring and rank 24th in the NBA in offense with 105.8 points per game. Their defense is better but still not good enough at 17th in the league in terms of scoring defense.

In situations like this, I tend to lean towards the team that plays better defense. It seems that no matter how shakey the opposing offense is, they are still good enough to put up points on the Kings.

I'll take the Wizards as short favorites here on the road.

Pick: Washington Wizards -1.0 (-110)
