World Series Odds: Astros Open as Favorites over Phillies to Win 2022 Fall Classic
By Ben Heisler
The Houston Astros head into the 2022 World Series without a loss to their name, and the oddsmakers are backing the American League pennant winners to etch their name in history.
Over at DraftKings Sportsbook, the Astros open the Fall Classic as sizable favorites over the Philadelphia Phillies, coming in at -175 to win their second World Series title in franchise history.
Over at BetMGM, the Astros are slightly higher on the board, opening at -185 with the Phillies coming in at +150.
At FanDuel and PointsBet, the Astros are slightly lower at -180 while the Phillies remain at +150 odds.
The Astros entered the postseason as the favorites to win the American League at +175 odds. After a bye in the AL wild card round, they took out the red-hot Seattle Mariners in the ALDS with a three-game sweep, including a massive comeback down 7-3 in Game 1 at home.
Houston never looked back, winning their next seven games, including sweeping the New York Yankees to make it to the World Series.
They'll face a Phillies squad that's been playing since the National League wild card round. Philadelphia was +1500 to win the NL Pennant, needing to take out the St. Louis Cardinals on the road, followed by a 3-1 series win in the NLDS vs. their division rival Atlanta Braves. They followed it up with another 3-1 series victory over the San Diego Padres, capped off with a comeback two-run shot from Bryce Harper.

World Series Game 1 Probable Pitchers for Phillies vs. Astros
Justin Verlander will almost assuredly get the start for the Astros in Game 1 of the World Series Friday night after not pitching since Game 1 of the ALCS against the New York Yankees back on Wednesday evening.
Verlander ended the regular season as the favorite to win the Cy Young in the American League.
For the Phillies, it will be a debate between Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola to go in Game 1. Wheeler pitched on Sunday in Game 5, so he could go on Friday on full four days rest. In four postseason starts, Wheeler is 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA in 25.1 innings.
Nola, meanwhile, may also be considered for Game 1, despite a rough start in his previous outing. After two starts of now allowing a run, Nola only lasted 4.2 innings in his last start in Game 2 vs. the Padres; allowing six earned runs.
Will it be the Astros winning their first World Series since 2017, or will the Phillies return the hardware for the first time since 2009? The wagers are already underway!
