Xander Schauffele is still seeking his first major championship victory, but this week’s US Open at Torrey Pines would be the perfect place for him to grab his first.

Schauffele, who’s a San Diego native, has plenty of experience at Torrey Pines and he considers it his home course. He was born just a couple miles away from the track, and he spent a large amount of his pivotal years of his golf growth teeing it up at Torrey Pines.

WynnBET has confidence in Xander’s play, as they have him listed second on the odds list to win the US Open at +1500. Only Jon Rahm has shorter odds, as he’s listed as the +900 favorite.

Schauffele was at the 2008 US Open as a 15-year old, the last time it was held at the San Diego Course, watching Tiger Woods defeat Rocco Mediate in the legendary 18-hole playoff.

Despite his lengthy experience at the track, Schauffle hasn’t historically had much success at the Farmers Insurance Open, which is the annual event hosted at Torrey Pines. Before this year, he had four missed cuts and a 25th place finish in five career starts. He began to change that narrative this season with a 2nd place finish at the 2021 edition of the event, finishing five-strokes back of the winner, Patrick Reed.

Despite his not-so-great history at his home course, I listed Xander as one of my top picks to win in my US Open betting preview. With his good play off the tee, his strong approach game, and ranking 8th in putting this season, Schauffele is primed to finally capture his first major championship victory.

Schauffele has competed in four US Opens, and he hasn’t finished worse than T6. He has finishes of T5, T6, T3, and a solo 5th place finish at the September 2020 version of the event.

It’s not a matter of “if” Schauffele is going to win a major, it’s more a question of “when”, and I think that question will be answered this Sunday when he lifts the US Open Trophy.
