Xavier March Madness Odds to Get into NCAA Tournament
By Reed Wallach
Stop me if you've heard this before, Xavier is in a late season free fall.
The Musketeers have consistently struggled down the stretch with head coach Travis Steele and now are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament, drawing closer and closer to the bubble, after losing to St. John's on Wednesday night. The team has now dropped seven of their last eight games with one game left.
Two years ago, the team dropped five of their last seven and last season it was six of eight. Are we in the midst of seeing another meltdown that will keep the team out of the NCAA Tournament yet again?
Here are some necessary updates to one of the coldest teams in the country.
Xavier Current NCAA Tournament Projection
As of Bracket Matrix's March 2nd update, not accounting for the loss on Wednesday, the Musketeers still sit on the 9 seed line, but trending downwards.
The team is polarizing to bracketologists, with some having the team on the 11 line and others on the 9 line. Bracket Matrix is a compilation of many projections so many are all over the place on this team as they trend downwards.
Xavier Remaining Schedule
Xavier has one game left this weekend, against winless Big East foe Georgetown at home. Assuming they win, the team will likely be set to face St. John's in the 8/9 game of the Big East Tournament. Of course, the team will need to grab a win for a chance to get an impressive win against Providence in the quarterfinals.
However, with the way the team is playing, they are drawing closer and closer to the bubble with limited opportunities to bolster their standing to the selection committee.
