The New York Yankees are still atop the American League Wild Card, but it won’t be for long if they continue to struggle.

New York has lost three straight games, with two of those losses coming to the lowly Baltimore Orioles, and is just 3-7 in its last 10 games.

The Yankees hold a 0.5 game lead on the Boston Red Sox and a 3.5 game advantage on the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners in the AL wild card race. However, New York lost the opening game of a four-game set with the Jays on Monday, and it is in serious danger of blowing that entire lead in this series.

Luckily for the Yankees, Gerrit Cole is on the mound in Tuesday’s matchup against Blue Jays starter Steven Matz (10-7, 3.80 ERA).

Cole (14-6, 2.73 ERA) turned in a performance for the ages his last time out against the Los Angeles Angels. He tossed seven innings of one-run ball, striking out 15 batters to lead the Yankees to a 4-1 victory.

With the Yankees losing Zack Britton and Jonathan Loáisiga in their bullpen due to injury, Cole is going to need to turn in another high-quality performance to help the Yankees get back on track against their division rival.

WynnBET has the Yankees as -240 favorites with Cole on the mound, and it’s worth noting that the ace tossed eight innings of two-run ball in his last start against Toronto on June 16.

This season Cole has made three starts against the Jays and is 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 19.1 innings. That’s great news for the Yankees, and bettors may want to take a player prop of Cole’s in this one.

Cole has allowed five, four, and four hits in his three starts against the Jays this season, and WynnBET has his hits allowed prop set at 5.5 with the under juiced at -140 odds. Cole has allowed over five hits in just one of his last four starts and has held the Blue Jays to a .171 batting average over his three starts against them this season.

I’ll take the under on Cole’s hits allowed prop as he looks to be the stopper the Yankees so desperately need on Tuesday.
