In a potential preview of the American League Championship Series, the Houston Astros and New York Yankees are kicking off a one-and-done series tonight in Houston. This makeup game will be jammed in-between series for both teams and requires the Yankees to travel from New York to Houston, to Cleveland in around 24 hours.

I think this being a one-game “series” adds a ton of excitement to this matchup between two of the best teams in the league. However, Luis Garcia and Luis Severino could serve up a ton of combined runs and this one could get out of hand fast.

Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.

Yankees vs. Astros Odds, Run Line, and Total

Run Line

  • Yankees: -1.5 (+145)
  • Astors: +1.5 (-175)

Moneyline:

  • Yankees: -114
  • Astors: +104

Total:

  • 8 (Over -105/Under -115)

Yankees vs. Astros Prediction and Pick

Severino enters this game at 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 72 innings pitched. And while his ERA is just decent, has struggled a bit over the last few weeks. The Astros got to Severino his last time out with three runs on five hits. The game before that he struggled against the Blue Jays, surrendering five runs in five innings.

In his seven years of service for the Yankees, the current Astros are hitting .291 against him with an OBP of .302. Severino is a solid option most days, but he’s been shaky lately and the Astros seem to have his number.

If things are going bad for Severino in June, they are even worse for Garcia. In four June starts, the lesser Luis has a 4.84 ERA and has given up five home runs in that time. His strikeout numbers are strong, but his other metrics are suspicious at best.

Considering the Yankees are one of the most dangerous home run-hitting teams in the MLB, I think Garcia is in for a short outing at home.

I don’t trust either pitcher today to have a particularly great game and will look to the OVER in this one-game series. The way New York is hitting this season, they could easily send this game over eight runs by themselves. Considering they are hitting .370 against Garcia, I think this game gets ugly fast.

Pick: OVER 8 (-115)
