The Yankees have quietly amassed the best record in baseball, 16-6, and now look to back it up with a matchup against a fellow American League contender in the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees and Blue Jays have started to separate from the pack in the AL East already, Toronto trails New York by 1.5 games as the calendar turns to May and both teams are inside the top five in the bigs in slugging percentage.

How should we handicap this first meeting of a 3 game series? First, let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Odds, Run Line, Total

Run Line:

  • Yankees: -1.5 (+120)
  • Blue Jays: +1.5 (-170)

Moneyline:

  • Yankees: -106
  • Blue Jays: -104

Total: 8.5 (Over -105/Under -115)

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Prediction and Pick

The Blue Jays lineup is as good as advertised heading into the season, top 10 in batting average, but 4th in slugging as the team has plenty of power with Vladamir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer headlining a talented group.

However, the team does drop to around the middle of the pack across the big leagues against left handed pitching, which is what they are up against on Monday when the Yankees send out Jordon Montgomery. Montomgery has a 2.70 ERA but is more based around generating soft contact as he only strikes out seven batters per 9 innings.

New York will look to keep it going on offense as well as the team has plated the fifth most runs in baseball. This will be a high powered series that can have long standing effects on the AL East race come September, but I'm going to lean with the Blue Jays as (ever so) slight home underdogs.

Ross Stripling has been solid in 2022, but he has been better than his numbers indicate. He has a 3.60 ERA but his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) is closer to 2.30, meaning that he has been on the wrong side of some poor variance in the field.

We are getting a good price on an elite ball club and think the home team takes the opener.

LEAN: Blue Jays -104
