The New York Yankees head to Fenway Park for a pivotal late September weekend series against the Boston Red Sox.

The Bronx Bombers will send their ace Gerrit Cole out to hold off the Boston offense; the Red Sox will counter with Nathan Eovaldi.

Boston currently holds the top spot in the AL Wild Card while the Yankees are sitting in second, just a game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays. However, it's the Yankees who are favored in this matchup, -120 favorites with a total set at 9 at WynnBET Sportsbook.

Both pitchers are inside the top 10 in AL WAR, Cole second and Eovaldi fourth, and have done well against their opposition. Cole has allowed just a .222 batting average over 176 at bats to Red Sox hitters. Eovaldi is no slouch either, allowing a .256 batting average over more than 200 AB's against the Yankees.

Yankees vs. Red Sox Prediction, Pick

Cole has slowed down considerably after a dynamite August. His ERA has gone from .51 in August to 4.64 in four starts this month. Not to mention, he is coming off a nightmare start against the Indians, allowing seven runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Meanhwile, Eovaldi is continuing to put together a strong season, especially at Fenway, posting a 2.99 ERA in the friendly confines.

I'll side with both pitchers getting off to a strong start in what should feel like an early playoff preview with both teams on a collision course for the Wild Card game, and take the first five under 4.5 (+100).

Both pitchers have had success against their opponents and I think this is an overreaction to Cole's string of poor starts. We have seen him dial it up during this volatile season for the Yanks, including a complete game shutout in Houston over the summer.

As for Eovaldi, he has been great at home and since the All-Star break, raising his strikeouts per nine by nearly three since the break.

I'll wait for the bullpens to get involved for the fireworks to get started and take the cheap first five under.

Pick: F5 Under 4.5 (+100)
