Well, Zach Wilson might be for real.

Just ask Aaron Rodgers.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft put on a show in his second preseason performance, throwing for 128 yards on 11 attempts, completing nine, and tossing two scores.

Wilson, whose impressive junior season at BYU led to him flying up draft boards, has looked the part for the New York Jets so far this preseason, and he could be a valuable pick to win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award at +600 odds.

Wilson is tied for third on the list at WynnBET, as Justin Fields (+525) and Trevor Lawrence (+275) still are ahead of the Jets quarterback.

Wilson has an edge on Fields, however, as he’s expected to be the Jets starter in Week 1 of this season, and his preseason performances have shown he’s more than ready to take on that challenge.

When looking at the most recent quarterbacks to win Rookie of the Year (Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III, Dak Prescott, Kyler Murray, Justin Herbert), all seven played at least 15 games in their rookie season.

As long as Wilson avoids injury, it seems like the Jets plan on trotting him out there for all 17 games in 2021, and it will allow him to truly show if he’s ready to star at the NFL level.

Wilson threw for 33 touchdowns and just three interceptions in his last season at BYU, and he has started his preseason career completing 15 of his first 20 passes for 191 yards and two scores.

Opportunity matters when it comes to the Rookie of the Year, and Wilson deserves to get plenty this season in New York. The Jets may not be a playoff team, but Wilson should give fans a lot to look forward to this season.
