The New York Jets look like they made a good decision taking Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick. Wilson looked comfortable in his first preseason start. The young rookie completed 6-of-9 passes for 63 yards and led the Jets to a score. The Jets won 12-7, but it was Wilson’s play that surprised a lot of people, considering how reporters were depicting his performances during training camp.

Wilson played some of the best football out of the five first-round quarterbacks this week, according to Pro Football Focus.

Wilson’s contemporaries had mixed debuts. Justin Fields nearly broke Twitter with his performance while Trevor Lawrence had a subpar debut. Trey Lance had an inconsistent game and Mac Jones surprised a lot of people with the way he played.

Obviously it’s only one game and the New York Giants didn’t have all of their starters, but the Jets are loving what they are seeing out of Wilson. His two drives were enough for Robert Saleh to load the praise onto Wilson postgame.

That sentiment has been said many times by many coaches about many Jets quarterbacks. New York felt the same way about Sam Darnold that it did about Wilson, and now Darnold is a Carolina Panther. However, it’s still early enough that Saleh’s statement could still prove to be true.

WynnBET didn’t move Wilson’s odds for Rookie of the Year, as he is still +600. Wilson is tied with Najee Harris for third in the ROY race, but could see some movement if he keeps playing like this.
