Zack Moss vs. Devin Singletary: Has Moss Emerged as Bills’ Backfield Leader?
By Peter Dewey
Buffalo Bills running back Zack Moss was a healthy scratch in Week 1 of the NFL season, but he has put himself in position to be the team’s lead runner over the past two weeks.
After Devin Singletary looked like a sure bet to lead the Bills’ backfield after Week 1, Moss played more snaps and had more opportunities than Singletary in Buffalo’s blowout win over the Washington Football Team in Week 3.
Moss has only played in two games, but he has 21 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also added five catches on five targets for 39 yards and another touchdown.
Over that same stretch, Singletary has 24 carries for 108 yards and one score, adding three catches for nine yards. However, in Week 3 against Washington Singletary was held to just 26 rushing yards on 11 carries despite the blowout.
Game script has favored Moss, as the Bills have been playing with major leads as of late, but he’s also making the most of his opportunity.
Singletary had a 46-yard touchdown run in Week 2 against Miami, but he’s had 23 other carries over the past two games with just 62 rushing yards to show for it. He’s taken a step back to Moss in the red zone, and if you’re betting on any player prop for touchdown scorers, Moss looks like the player to back.
The Bills are massive 17-point favorites against the Houston Texans in Week 4 at WynnBET, and it appears to be another game that would favor Moss over Singletary.
While the 2020 third-round pick was arguably the most curious healthy scratch in the NFL in the opening week, he clearly has changed his standing with the Buffalo coaching staff the past two weeks and is trending upward heading into Week 4.
