The Buffalo Bills are coming off a strong win against the reigning AFC Champions Chiefs. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses for everyone. Bills running back Devin Singletary had his worst outing of the season, posting just 25 yards on six carries. Not only was his output low, but his usage was way down as well.

Compare Singletary’s numbers to Zack Moss, who has been heating up as Singletary stumbles. Moss was used on 74% of plays in week 5’s win over the Chiefs with Singletary seeing just 26% of snaps. Moss made the most of those extra snaps, out-touching Singletary 15-8.

So, as the Bills head into a Week 6 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, one question remains. Will Moss continue to get the bulk of the work in the Bills’ backfield or can Singletary find his groove and win back his starting job?

Zack Moss vs Devin Singletary stats comparison

If we take a look at overall H2H season stats for these two backs, it appears that Singletary has been having the better season. He has totaled 284 yards on 55 attempts compared to Moss’ 184 yards on 46 attempts. Singletary has a better average as well at 5.2 YPC to Moss’ 4.0.

Moss does have Singletary beat in one major stat, however. Moss has scored four touchdowns compared to Singletary’s one. Three of those came on the ground and one through the air. It should also be noted that Moss missed the team’s first game against Pittsburgh on Sept. 12. Singletary posted 72 yards off 11 carries and added 8 more yards on 3 receptions.

Issues for Singletary began to pop up in week 3 in a win over the Washington Football Team. Singletary was only able to muster 26 yards on 11 carries and recorded just one catch for no gain. Meanwhile, Moss scampered for 60 yards on 13 carries and added 31 yards and a TD off 3 catches.

Singletary snapped back in the following game and recorded a decent stat line of 79 yards off 14 carries with a seven-yard catch. Moss, however, had the same number of touches and, despite recording 18 fewer yards, did manage to score a TD.

At this point, it is hard to make a strong prediction on who, if anyone, takes control of this backfield. After a strong start to his season in week two against the Dolphins, where he scored twice on 8 carries, Moss’ workload has steadily increased in both the passing and running game. During this time, Singletary has seen his role diminish. He has especially been ignored in the passing game where he’s managed just 8 receptions all season for 22 yards.

It appears that the pair will be spitting time for now, with Moss getting more action on passing downs and at the goal line. I think we seem a Singletary get more snaps this week than the 26% he saw in week 5, but this backfield will remain a two-headed dragon for the foreseeable future. From a fantasy perspective, it is hard to start any Bills RB but, if you must, Moss has more value due to sniping TDs, especially in PPR leagues.
