3 Best MLB Prop Bets for Padres vs. Giants (San Francisco Offense in Line for Big Night)
By Matt De Saro
The MLB season is less than a week old and I already have some strong opinions. Especaily about tonight's Padres v s.Giants clash.
Let’s take a look at some prop odds for this showdown, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.
3 Best Prop Bets for Padres vs. Giants
- Giants Team Total OVER 4.5 Runs (+105)
- Wil Myers UNDER 0.5 Total Bases from Hits (+130)
- Brandon Belt to Hit a Home Run (+500)
Giants Team Total OVER 4.5 Runs (+105)
As I pointed out in my full-game preview for the Padres and Giants, San Diego has a huge problem on the mound tonight. That problem is named Nick Martinez. The issue I have with Martinez is that he hasn’t pitched a Major League regular-season game since 2017. He last played for the Rangers where he had a terrible 2017 season before getting booted to Japan. To be fair, he was lights-out in the Nippon League last year. But, Japanese ball does not directly translate to success stateside.
Furthermore, Martinez has always struggled more against lefties. The Giants have a lot of big bats on that side of the plate that can cause some issues for Martinez. Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, and Mike Yastrzemski are all dangerous and will cause Martinez issues tonight. I’d be surprised if this isn't the game the Giants' offense wakes up.
Wil Myers UNDER 0.5 Total Bases from Hits (+130)
Wil Myers is off to a bad start at the plate. There is just no way to sugarcoat it. His biggest issue right now is his habit of striking out a lot. Myers has struck out seven times in his first four games. That is three games of 2+ strikeouts in less than a week of action. Myers has struck out in half of his at-bats and is jutting just .133 with an OPS of .388. He also managed just two hits in those first four games. I think that his struggles could continue tonight against Alex Wood.
Brandon Belt to Hit a Home Run (+500)
This ties back to my general shock that the Padres can't find anyone better to start the fourth game of their season than Martinez. The Giants’ first baseman is off to a solid start to the year with a home run in eight at-bats. The bomb came against the Miami Marlins on Friday and helped the Giants eke out a 6-5 win in extra innings. I think he is the most dangerous lefty with power in the lineup for SF tonight and is worth a small play on this prop.
