3 Best Prop Bets for Yankees vs. Guardians in ALDS Game 4 (Trust Steven Kwan, Fade Yankees' Offense)
By Peter Dewey
The Cleveland Guardians are one win away from upsetting the New York Yankees in the ALDS, and the Yankees will turn to Gerrit Cole to keep the season alive in Game 4 on Sunday.
Cole started New York’s win in Game 1, but the team hasn’t been able to hang on to leads in Game 2 and 3, with the bullpen blowing a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning on Saturday.
With New York’s bullpen taxed, the Guardians racking up 15 hits in Game 3 and this game being played in Cleveland, how should we bet on it?
I broke down how I'm betting today's solo game on the MLB postseason schedule here, but if you're looking for prop bets to consider, here are my top three for Game 4 of this ALDS matchup:
Best MLB Prop Bets for Yankees vs. Guardians
- Gerrit Cole OVER 18.5 Outs Recorded
- Steven Kwan to Hit a Single
- Yankees Team Total UNDER 8.5 Hits
Gerrit Cole OVER 18.5 Outs Recorded
The Yankees desperately need another elite performance from Cole, who threw 6.1 innings of one-run ball in Game 1, striking out eight Guardians.
The Yankees’ bullpen is taxed, as Wandy Peralta and Jonathan Loaisiga have pitched in every game in this series and Clarke Schmidt has now thrown in back-to-back contests.
I don’t think Aaron Boone has much confidence in the other arms in New York’s bullpen, which means the Yankees may be inclined to let Cole go as long as he possibly can with the season on the line. Cole has cleared 18.5 outs in just three of his last seven starts, but this is a whole different story in a playoff game.
Steven Kwan to Hit a Single
Steven Kwan has been the hottest hitter in Cleveland’s lineup in this series, tallying six hits through three games, including four singles.
Kwan has singled in each game, and he hit the ball hard off of Cole in Game 1, taking him deep for the Guardians’ first run. Right now, the Guardians outfielder is -210 to record a hit, but just -135 to hit a single.
Since he isn’t a power hitter, I’ll take a shot on Kwan to put together another solid day and pick up a single on Sunday.
Yankees Team Total UNDER 8.5 Hits
This may be the easiest bet on the board on Sunday, as New York has yet to clear six hits in a game this series.
The Yankees have also struck out a ton in the first three games against Cleveland, so you’re not even sweating a ton of balls in play. The Yankees’ top six hitters were a combined 1-for-23 in Game 3, and I don’t expect much to change against Quantrill and this vaunted Cleveland bullpen in Game 4.
With James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase both available to relieve Quantrill, I don’t see the Yankees stringing together nine or more hits, even if they win the game.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
