After two days at The Masters, we've got plenty of notable storylines and betting opportunities to follow.

The first, of course, is Tiger Woods not only making the cut, but somehow remaining in contention. The 5-time champ, like most of the field, struggled in very difficult and windy conditions on Friday, but Woods sits at 1-over par (+1) for the tournament in 19th place, with odds at WynnBET Sportsbook of +11000 (110/1) to make a run.

Other than Tiger Woods' triumphant return to Augusta National, the big question bettors are asking is two-fold. Can anyone catch Scottie Scheffler with a five-stroke lead? And if so, who will it be?

Here are three names I expect to contend the entire way through with Scheffler during the final 36 holes.

3 Golfers to Contend with Scottie Scheffler at The Masters This Weekend

  • Shane Lowry +1200
  • Justin Thomas +1500
  • Corey Conners +6500

Shane Lowry +1200

If not for Scheffler's stupid-good round on Friday, Lowry's 68 would have been the other major story of the day along with Tiger Woods surviving the cut.

Lowry has only missed four fairways through his first 36 holes and wasn't phased at all by the swirling winds picking up throughout the day at Augusta National. He also leads all golfers, including Scheffler in strokes gained: off-the-tee.

Via Justin Ray, the last time Lowry was in second or better in a Major was during the 2019 Open, when he took home the championship at Royal Portrush.

Scheffler may be tough to catch, but Lowry's going to be in it until the end.

Justin Thomas +1500

On Friday morning, I wrote about Rory McIlroy's remarkable scoring from Rounds 2-4 of Majors, and his struggles in Round 1. This week, it was Thomas making a red-hot charge, tying Scheffler for the best round of the day at 5-under par (67) after shooting a first round 4-over 76.

J.T. gained nearly five and a half strokes with his irons on Friday; gaining 7.61 strokes: total on the day.

With the majority of the field struggling mightily on Friday, both Thomas and Scheffler stepped up, and should keep their momentum going into the weekend.

Corey Conners +6500

"Canada's Finest" was my pick to win this week at The Masters, and so far, he's done nothing to show that he still can't pick up his first green jacket.

After a 2-under 70 on Thursday, Conners shot 1-over on Friday, but still remains in the top 10 with guys like Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, and Justin Thomas; all of which have far shorter odds than he does.

If not for two bogeys on 16 and 17, we'd be talking about Conners as a serious threat to challenge Scheffler. He'll have to make a few more greens in regulation (GIR) after going 61% on Friday, but he's 67% for the tournament and will certainly contend for a third straight top 10 finish at Augusta.

Conners hasn't had any massive mistakes, shooting no worse than a bogey during the first 36 holes. His steadiness will be a key for him the rest of the way to contending.
